People Poor in Spirit 29 SALT FOR SOCIETY This is why we are exhorted to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God. Read James 4410. There are several simple steps one can take: 1) Think much about the greatness of God. Take time each day to meditate quietly on His majesty and might displayed throughout the universe. Compare your own minuteness and fallibility. 2) Give your Father genuine gratitude for all the wondrous gifts, benefits, blessings bestowed on you. Name them. Recall them. Remind your proud spirit they all come from Him. 3) Concentrate on the consistency of Christ. See how patient, faithful and understanding He has been with you despite your perverseness and pride. 4) Quietly, sincerely, soberly contemplate the cost of Calvary for your redemption. The price for your total forgiveness and acceptance by God is beyond measure. 5) Consider the remarkable generosity of God in not only reconciling you to Himself by His own laid-down life, but also recognizing you as His dear child. 6) Run over in retrospect the supernatural ways in which Gods Spirit has pursued you all the days of your life, down all the tangled trails of your wayward wanderings. 7 ) Contemplate in awe and wonder the remarkable selflessness of a living God who always acts only in your own best interests, who brings even the best out of your mistakes. If you do these things, you will become poor and humble in spirit but rich in the presence and power of God. His life will become your life. His wishes will become your wishes. His work will become your work in society. And you will become one who goes out to turn the world upside down because He is in you. Read Philippians 2: 12-16.
