People commonly ask what is the best or even most optimal - TopicsExpress

People commonly ask what is the best or even most optimal macronutrient split (protein, carbohydrate & fat) for their dietary intake. The simple take home is this, there is numerous individual considerations that have to be taken into account when working out not only macronutrient splits but overall calorie intake, however believe it or not there is certainly a good margin for error when it comes to macronutrient splits. Meaning there is beneficial ranges that have a high and low point, and there can be a level of personal discretion and preference for them while constructing the overall dietary intake. As long as using a particular intake amount for a certain macro doesnt take away from your ability to meet bare minimum requirements for others, will be the ball park for progress so to speak. I could bang on here for a 35 page article about all the ins & outs of macro needs and splits, but Im sure Ive covered it all in one way or another in status on the page at some point. But the biggest issue tend to be that people are extremists or simply unaware that their split is far too one sided. Excessive protein intakes or below minimal (yes that does happen) or excessive carbohydrate intakes with below minimum fat intakes, are just a few of the more common issues I come across. So while each individual goal and person will have specific needs to support THIER requirements, but there are core dietary considerations that EVERYONE who is active should aim to achieve. Oh and once you have an adequate dietary intake support your goals, all you need to do is STICK TO IT for an adequate length of time. Doing something for 2 weeks or even 4 weeks doesnt mean much. They are little steps in the big process, so saying it doesnt work after 2-4 weeks is unrealistic. Eat smart and flexible, and do it for the long term!!
