People might be aware that the USA is actively engaged in drone bombing terrorist targets in Yemen without actually thinking through what this really means in the political landscape specific to there. The stark and disappointing facts are that the US would sometimes do the dirty work of the fairly oppressive and unpopular Yemen government by killing the Yemeni governments own enemies via drone strike in exchange for the ability for the US to build more military bases there that are deemed necessary to protect the southern border to Saudi Arabian oil fields and the Gulf of Aden and Arabian Sea shipping routes. Meanwhile Houthi rebels (a Yemeni Shiite militia) have taken over greater areas to the point of the current government close to abdicating, while other Sunni insurgent groups (some linked to Al-Qaeda, with evidence they are being funded by groups from Saudi Arabia) are also vying for increased power.
