People who are called intellectuals are a curious class. So, take for example where I work, MIT... ah... if there is a Nobel laureate in Physics working seventy hours a week in his laboratory, solving problems of advanced Physics, he is NOT called an intellectual. If a janitor who cleans his room has important and accurate views on world politics, much more accurate than, say, those who write rhetorical books, he is still NOT an intellectual. By and large, intellectuals are people who have a certain degree of privilege. You can look at the history of intellectualism... it is not a pretty one.
