Personal update. I bought a used 50 HDTV at the thrift store - TopicsExpress

Personal update. I bought a used 50 HDTV at the thrift store yesterday. It couldnt be passed up when the clerk said $6. It wasnt real thin...but it wasnt rear projected either. It was a Samsung 2008... so if fixed it could be worth $100. But it was too old for parts I could send for. I plugged it in... the case had some mud on it...probably left in a garage. There was an image of the menu when pressed ... and snow when I pressed the channel button. The brightness was very weak... pathetic little floating box when I pushed a menu button on the side... but I thought I could tweak the gamma levels. (Brightness, colors, sharpness, contrast) To the non technical... it looked like garbage. I went through checkout and a clerk pushed it into the backsteat. It barely fit... but my autistic sister started to go off... that it was too big. I had a friend with me... so after I caught up with her in the parking lot and convinced her to ride home... I left her in the trailer to go get our friend. We pulled it out of our tiny Ford Mustang convertible... and hooked it up in the driveway... because Tammy was refusing I bring it inside. Too big. Thats what she kept saying. It was about 8pm as we finally got the gamma brighter... but it was stuck on a screen saver. Very annoying...even during a Praise The Lord station it picked up. Why...it picks up Praise The Lord TV only... is anyones guess. They all do that ... here...without cable or something... I got it sort of working... we got some shows ... but no remote. It was a 2008 Samsung ... a nice set... if we got it working. The screen alignment was leaning right as well. I believed it could be calibrated... given enough time. I was considering keeping it and taking him home... but we ended up putting it back in the car. She didnt like it and was argumentative. She would have attacked it... I couldnt get the screen saver to stop... so I figured something was wrong anyway. I gave it to our friend. It only cost $6, so I didnt feel too bad. Well get a smaller HDTV later that has a remote and is new or near new later around 37 as promised.
