Philippine Native Plants Conservation Society, Inc. in close cooperation and partnership with Pampanga Agricultural College presents its 2nd International Symposium “Our Native Flora: Rediscovering their Value and Exploring their Untapped Potentials” November 15–16, 2013 Pampanga Agricultural College Magalang, Pampanga, Philippines 2nd ANNOUNCEMENT and CALL FOR PAPERS INTRODUCTION The Philippines’ plant diversity is unquestionable. Leonardo Co, the founding president of PNPCSI, had emphasized the richness and variety of the native flora. However, since colonization and subsequent increasing globalization, nonindigenous or exotic plants have been used extensively all over the country. Our native flora has been gravely overlooked and their potential uses had been underexplored or understudied. Native plants are our sources of building materials, food, ornamentals, medicine and material culture. Ecologically speaking, the use of native plants as reforestation species is seldom utilized. It is the aim of this year’s symposium to promote awareness on the importance of the native flora and to tap their great potential in forestry, agriculture, horticulture, landscape designs and medicine. The current theme emphasizes the contribution of indigenous plants to different sectors of the society which could be in the form of ecological or economic services. The two‐day symposium on November 15 and 16, 2013 is the second symposium conducted by the PNPCSI. The symposium is part of the continuing effort of the Society to popularize and mainstream our native flora. PLENARY SESSION TOPICS 1. Plant diversity 2. Forestry 3. Agriculture 4.
