Phuket News: Patong underwater in Phuket storm “It has been raining heavily for about two hours solid, and there is flooding on many roads in Patong, especially in the Bangla Rd area.” The tide at 10pm this evening was at 3.3 metres, among the highest for the month, which prevents floodwater from running off into the ocean. Many of the worst affected roads in Patong, including Nanai Road and stretches of Rat-U-Thit Road in front of Jungceylon were submerged in water a few metres deep, leading those in search of a warm and dry bed to make alternative plans to get home. Almost all routes leading towards Patong Hill were blocked with water. Roads towards Karon were slightly better, and were largely unimpeded by the floods. There were however a few tuk tuks that had given up on the steep ascent up Karon Hill and lay strewn on the side of the roads as the mini vehicles’ small engines proved no match for the constant downward streams of water. Mr Weera advised caution. “Please beware of mudslides and flash floods in the area," he said. The Tesco Lotus intersection on the way into Phuket Town was also severely flooded in the early hours of Monday morning. In other parts of Phuket Town, however, there were no reports of flooding, though if the rain keeps up, tomorrow morning could look very different. The heavy rain did, however, result in Phuket FC’s match against PTT Rayong being stopped just after half time. The Phuket Meteorology Office issued a warning at 9pm that the current storm is moving only slowly towards Krabi, pushed by the southwest monsoon. Thunder storms are predicted to continue until the end of tomorrow, and intense southwest monsoon conditions with heavy rain will remain until the end of the week. With high winds and sea swells running at 2 to 3 metres, small boats and ferries should remain in port.
