Phulkari is a traditional pattern of weaving in punjab.It is popular with the women of Punjab since 15th century.among the art and craft of Punjab. Phulkari is the most popular hand work in Pakistan and the rest of the world. The traditional embroidery art is phulkari. The word "Phulkari" mean to plant the new flowers and to growth of them. The Phulkari with very intricate floral pattern is called Bagh, that means garden. it is primarily used on the odhanies and dupattas. It is considered suspecious for te bride and for the new born. The origin of Phulkari can not exactly be traced. Reference of Punjabi embroidery though goes 2000 years back to the vedicages. Phulkari has been mentioned in the famous tale of Heer and Raanjha by the poet Waris Shah.
