Pine Street in Amherst will see road work soon AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Residents of Pine Street in Amherst are relieved that their street is finally getting some attention. For the last couple months a mile long section of road was stripped without pavement, making for a rocky ride. Now, the Department of Public Works has stepped up their schedule for paving. On Wednesday, contractors from Lane Construction were working on grading the road. Once that’s done, the paving will begin on Friday and is expected to be finished early next week. The Director of the DPW in Amherst told 22News why they decided to accelerate the project. “People have been complaining about Pine Street for years,” says Guilford Mooring. “We are finally getting it paved. There’s a new water line under Pine Street that runs under pine from Cushman to North Amherst and a sewer main that runs that same length and now there is going to be new pavement.” Because they moved up this paving project, the DPW had to put on hold paving projects on Cottage Street and streets off of North Pleasant Street. Beginning next Spring, the DPW says they’ll add bicycle lanes and a sidewalk to Pine Street.
