Place an order with Carpetright, Kendal to lay laminate flooring and carpet in our celler last October. Shell out a not inconsiderable £700ish to get the job done. Carpet fitter & laminate specialist arrive & do the job early November. One of them manages to get the glue being used to stick the laminate/carpet joining strip to the floor on to their shoes and on to the laminate and it wont come off. Not impressive! Arrive without sufficient length of joining bar so, they have to return to finish the job after we return from Morocco. Not really an issue. Give it 3 months and a section of the carpet begins to come adrift from the joining strip. Inform Carpetright, the fitter returns, spends five minutes on the job and leaves with the carpet apparently fixed back down. This time, it lasts about 3 weeks before coming adrift again. The edge of the carpet is starting to look ragged as well. Leave it until the end of the Summer (why we did I dont know) before informing Carpetright again. The original fitter is sent back and tells us we have a damp problem (absolute bollocks!) he informs us that a new joining strip is needed and that he will organise it. Call into the branch at the end of September to enquire as to when he is coming - to be informed that he has told the (outgoing) branch manager the the problem has been dealt with!! Properly unimpressed. Call in last week. The new branch manager is aware of the problem and awaiting our visit. He informs us that a different fitter will be calling on Monday Morning to fit the new strip & sort the problem. Monday afternoon, I call into the branch to inform the manager that said fitter has not appeared! Tuesday afternoon, I get a phonecall from said fitter apologising for not having turned up, snowed under with work, fitting carpets til 9:30pm yesterday as let down by another fitter who didnt turn up to assist with the workload. Told by the fitter that he will be with us between 09:30 and 10:00 today. 10:15 this morning. Phone call from fitter. Will be with us at 11:15. Hear nothing further until 16:20 - just as we pull up at Carpetright to inform the manager of this second non-attendance, the fitter rings to say he is outside our door! Hand him over to the branch manager to be told (by him!) calm down! Oh chum - youve no idea just how f*****g restrained I was being!! Visit to Kirstins best mates kids birthday party cancelled for me at least! One of us has got to go home & oversee the fitter! Informed by said fitter that he is totally snowed under with jobs and being properly given the runaround by the company. Tells me that he had called the branch manager and asked them to let us know there was no way he was going to make ours til late afternoon!! Allegedly not getting paid for doing our repair! The fitter is clearly in a rush to get the job done and I have to tell him to slow down (its already been badly done twice before!) The guy does the best he can but admits that with the ragged edge of the carpet that the repair (partial new joining strip, glueing & refixing of carpet edge) might not be a lasting long term solution. Comments please!
