Please feel free to forward to your favorite area reporters and your friends who are seeking better training and employment opportunities, and area employers and policy makers! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 7.9.14 Contact: Henry Banks cjmmc_2000@yahoo African American and Indigenous community taking the lead on employment equity: Forum with employers, unions and elected officials July 16th. Duluth, Minnesota. Leaders from the area African American and Indigenous Communities are inviting all area people of color who are either unemployed or under employed to gather and talk with employers, City officials and union leaders about the changes needed to improve the rate of recruitment and retention of people of color in our labor force. Area leaders are concerned because, despite demographic projections indicating that people of color will be increasingly crucial to meet employer needs in the Twin Ports, and new jobs about to be filled in construction and other fields, unemployment is disproportionately high for people of color in Duluth. They hope that by being proactive and inviting employers, policy makers and Union representative to listen to prospective employees, more effective ways to let people know about openings, reduce barriers in education and training or transportation and to retain employees of color will be discovered which will benefit both the employers and our labor force. All area business, Union and policy leaders, as well as concerned citizens and job seekers are urged to attend. There will be an opportunity for job seekers to give their contact information as well as the job or training they are seeking to community leaders willing to provide some assistance in identifying and overcoming barriers to better employment.
