Police have had access to a wide array of non-lethal tools to use for keeping the peace with individuals and groups for decades now. We need to take a hard look at why our police so widely and commonly feel that deadly force is so quickly and so often an early and proper response. We also need to express far more concious authority over our standards for how our police act and bring the police into closer compliance with the law under civilian authority. I have heard several journalism organizations assert that sooner or later Mr. Cosby must speak to them. That is not true. No American is compelled, ever, to speak with journalists. It is our right and privilege to do so. What information we owe to our communities we owe personally or via the process of jurisprudence. In this instance I dont feel that there is anything that Mr. Cosby could, by speaking to the press now, add to the situation that could benefit his accusers, the process of justice, nor himself.
