Police seize cap guns from Springfield Township first-grader A school bus driver alerted Springfield Township police after seeing a first-grader armed with two guns Tuesday morning. The guns turned out to be two silver Western-style cap guns, police said. Police Capt. Kenneth Ray said that during the ride to school, the 6-year-old boy pointed one gun into the chest of another child and threatened to shoot. The toy gun did not have any caps. Ray said it appears to be a case of aggressive horseplay. Nonetheless, the child’s actions caused concern from other elementary schoolchildren on the bus, some of whom alerted the driver. The driver stopped the bus on Ewart Road, took the guns from the child and called police about 8:30 a.m. No children were injured; however, some students were “shaken up due to the event,” police said. Officers took the two cap guns and turned the boy over to his parents. No charges were expected to be filed because of the child’s age, police said. “He’s only 6, so I don’t know if he had any idea how serious it was,” Ray said.
