Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives are searching for 16-year-old David Allen Jones, Jr. Jones is wanted for Grand Theft Motor Vehicle, Burglary of an Unoccupied Vehicle, Leaving Scene of Crash, No Valid DL, Fleeing to Elude Law Enforcement, Resisting w/out Violence, and Violation of Probation for Burglary, Petit Theft, Possession of Cannabis, and Trespassing. On Thursday, August 8 at approximately 10:38 p.m. a Sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop on a 1998 white Chevrolet truck in the area of Lewellyn Road in the unincorporated Kathleen area north of Lakeland. The vehicle fled southbound on Lewellyn Road and turned westbound onto Chart Prine Road. While fleeing, the vehicle struck and damaged a mailbox on Chart Prine Road. The driver/suspect stopped in the middle of the road in the 3800 block of Chart Prine Road and fled on foot southbound down a dirt driveway. He was able to get away from deputies. A male passenger stayed with the truck and was later released from the scene. The suspect has been identified as David Allen Jones, Jr. Through their investigation, deputies learned the truck was stolen earlier in the day from the 1St Street NW area of Kathleen. David Jones Jr. does not have a valid driver’s license and is on felony probation for burglary, petit theft, possession of cannabis, and trespassing. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of David Allen Jones, Jr. is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 298-6200 or Crime Stoppers at 800-226-TIPS (8477)--callers to Crime Stoppers remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward.
