Ponpethi the Landing Pad for Bhairava Shakti Ponpethi is a small village near Arathanggi. I have heard of this sacred place, from the Agasthiar magazine where this was a place where Lord Bhairava in Kritha yuga of a different kalpa ( few billion years ago, only in Hinduism the calendar reaches to a trillion years) where Bhairava Himself first step foot on Earth. About 5000 years ago the Pandavas did a huge yajna for the peace of the world in Ponpethi. They were so happy they literally threw gold and gems around for the villagers. But the villagers took only what they need and left the rest lying on the grass. 96 Rishis spend almost 365 days here to do Darpanam for thier ancestors. This is very rare as Rishis and Sages rarely stay in a place for more than 3 months. It took about 3hrs from Kumbakonam by car to reach this holy land. The local priest Manikandan was glad to receive me and elaborated proudly about the greatness of Ponpethi. Ponpethi means Golden Platter of the World. This is a secret of the Siddhas of Agasthiar Lineage. Ponpethi is also the Land of Golden Bhairava (Potraala Bhairava Bhoomi) and as the Land of Golden Lakshmis Divine Grace (Svarna Lakshmi Arul Valaagam). This sacred space is praised thus by the Siddhas of the Agasthiar Lineage. This kshetra (sacred space) was known variously as Swarnapuri, Svarnaaranyam, Svarna Kaadu, Swarna Bhuvanam and so on in ancient times. Ponpethi is a Gold Shakti sacred space. The sacred space of Ponpethi showers Veda Shakti as Gold Shakti. Furthermore, 96 Nitya Ekadasi Seela Maharishis want to be here in Ponpethi too because of the great blessing they received from Lord Swarna Sundararaja Perumal here in Ponpethi during the Kara Year of a different era. This sacred land is where the avatar of Adi Moola Swarnakarshana Bhairava happened in the Kritha Yuga of a different time. Thus, this sacred space is also home to Golden Bhairava Avatar Shakti. The darshan of this Adi Moola Svarnakarshana Bhairava divine form can be had in the temple of Shiva Bhavaneeswara and Mother Akhilandeswari which is near the Vishnupathi Temple of Swarna Sundararaja Perumal and Mother Svarna Lakshmi. Because this sacred space is where the Lotus Feet of Adi Moola Svarnakarshana Bhairava first touched our world, this kshetra also becomes a Golden Bhairava Lotus Feet Darshan Sacred Space. This is the perfect place for ancestor worship says Manikandan as the Rishis had layed the groundwork. He further said that if you are a rich man now in any part of the world, it means that in one of your life you must have been to Ponpethi and had performed a prayer here and received the blessings of Swarna laksmi. While he was narrating the glories, I could notice a cobra coming out from the temple sanctum. The snake just passed thru without disturbing anyone and into the bushes. This only happens on a Fridays says Manikandan. No one knows why till today. This conglomeration of the shaktis (powers) of Golden Lakshmi, Golden Perumal and Golden Bhairava along with those of the rare Bhavaneeswara Shiva divine form and Mother Akhilandesvari make Ponpethi one of the must seeShiva-Vishnu sacred spaces bubbling with so much spiritual energy that can help ones spiritual development in wonderful ways.
