Posted on August 1, 2014 by jonnybutts90 Spinning is a high intensity indoor form of cycling it involves jumping onto a stationary bike and pedalling as hard as you can whilst adding or taking away resistance. Spinning is a great workout for cardiovascular fitness and can be used for hypertrophy of the legs, depending on the level of resistance you are working with. There is no doubt that it gives you a vigorous workout you can tell this from the sweat laden bodies of the people who have just finished a class, however a real advantage of choosing this exercise is the social camaraderie between the riders as you all work together as the music pumps away. People often ask what should I wear and what footwear should I use. A solid pair of trainers or running shoes are ideal to wear these slide into the cages and the cages can be tightened to the size of your feet accordingly. What to wear is really down to you but you need to bare in mind that you need to be comfortable and don’t want to get too hot. I would recommended that you wear shorts and if you have padded cycling shorts then these are ideal in terms of comfort. Vests or breathable t shirts should be worn you don’t want to wear anything that is too baggy. I must stress don’t choose clothing that you are going to make yourself over heat in. Always bring plenty of water and a sweat towel as I assure you will need it. Now lets look at the technical things. Riding setup and form is very important to have a brilliant ride. If you are unsure how to set up your bike then always seek the instructors advice. At invigorate we always try to make this easy for you by offering advice and assisting you with the setup of your bike. The seat should be set up to allow a near full knee extension as your feet come closest to the floor when pedalling and the handle bars should be at a height which maintains a flat back position and avoids rounding of the shoulders. As a general rule there are 3 riding positions. The first riding position is seated so you are sat with your bum on the saddle nice and simple. The second position is when you stand upright this is usually used for climbing with a high resistance. The third and final position is when you reach out over the handlebars with your body forward whilst standing this position tends to hit the core a little harder. The classes last for about 45 minutes and in this time you should expect a vigorous workout. Every class is different but a great workout is guaranteed each time. What’s great about spinning is that when you are finished you will feel great and you will probably have a brilliant time whilst doing it. In the classes we do at invigorate all the exercises are paired with music. We have climbing songs which tend to be a bit slower in tempo and often contain motivational lyrics as you slowly grind your legs round with a high resistance. Then we have the faster paces sprint songs with the music blazing out. If you have any requests on music choices we will always be happy to accommodate you. Always remember that you can go at your own pace listen to your body remember the instructor is there to push you but you are in control of your resistance and intensity you know what is best for you. So what are you waiting for give it a go. We have classes on Tuesdays 5- 6 and 6-7 and Saturdays 9 -10 and 10 – 11, and more will be coming soon.
