Posting 1468 When life existed in villages, the communities - TopicsExpress

Posting 1468 When life existed in villages, the communities were small. In those days, other than agrarian pursuits, people had to develop some expertise to seek even a meekly living. There were neighbourhood carpenters, blacksmiths, potters et al to cater to their respective small communities. Some others had to develop handicrafts or some odd professions, either handed down by their elders or inspired by some. In fact, the handicraft industry in India has a history of several hundred years. The granite carvings of our temples of those times stand testimony to the skill & craftsmen of the erstwhile artisans. Greece and Rome were the chief importers of Indian handicrafts besides the Portuguese, Dutch and the English. In Mughal times the demand for handicrafts came heavily from feudal lords and nawabs of the country & it was a period of prosperity to artisans in handicrafts. Here is a song propagating handicrafts, Kai thozhil onrai kathukoL written by Namakkal Kavinjar Ramalingam Pillai, which featured in the movie Kadavulin Kuzhanthai, story by Chinna Annamalai & direction by Dadha Mirasi. Music Director G.Ramanathan has used P.B.Srinivas for rendering this dong, which starts on the low registry. I always thought, PBS could demonstrate his mellifluous & velvety voice in mid to higher ranges of octaves! But veteran music composers prove us often wrong!! The film had Jamuna & Kalyan Kumar in the lead. youtu.be/Yg9GEarMBAs
