Posting a photo of my great-grandfather, William James Woodell, - TopicsExpress

Posting a photo of my great-grandfather, William James Woodell, born in Robeson County, NC abt. 1830. So far as known he left with his parents for Tennessee, probably the mid 1830s. Settled in Madison County, TN but left for Carroll County, MS at the age of 14 to live with an uncle, William Inman. He returned to marry Harriet B. Caruthers in Jackson, TN abt. 1853. Returned with her to Carroll Co. MS where they raised a large family. He died in 1921 about 90 years old. I have been seeking information about my great-grandfathers lineage. His father apparently was a John Woodell born about 1800 near Raleigh, NC, who married Elizabeth Inman in 1827 in Robeson Co. Johns father, so far as known, was John Woodell born 1762 in VA, county unknown, who married Catherine Batten, 1792 in Johnston Co. NC. This Johns father looks to have been another John, birthplace and date unknown, who was married to a Martha, surname unknown. Apart from this information, DNA of the male line has revealed my Woodells descend from a John WOODALL who was probably born late 1600s, place unknown. He settled in what became Goochland Co. VA. But there is a missing piece of the puzzle (generation). My line may have descended from John WOODALLs son William who moved to Granville Co., NC in the early 1760s but there is no absolute proof of it. The spelling of the surname seems to have changed with 1762-born John Woodell/Woodell about the time he moved to Robeson County. Thanks for any new information. It would be greatly appreciated!
