President Jacob Zuma has not yet asked the Special Investigating Unit to probe alleged irregularities in the upgrade of his private Nkandla homestead in KwaZulu-Natal. In a written parliamentary question to Zuma, Democratic Alliance MP Anchen Dreyer asked him whether he had signed a proclamation mandating the SIU to investigate the R206 million security upgrade. In a terse response, Zuma said: The matter is under consideration in light of other government processes which have not been finalised on the same matter. Public Protector Thuli Madonsela has completed her probe into the matter. A report has been handed to ministers in the security cluster. Zuma has yet to see the report, according to his spokesman Mac Maharaj. In another written reply, Zuma said he paid his own municipal bills. The DA wanted to know whether taxpayers were footing the bill for municipal rates and taxes, water, electricity, catering and cleaning at his KwaZulu-Natal home. No, the president does not receive any benefits in respect of any aspects mentioned above, Zuma said in another brief reply.
