President launches President’s Oxygen Concert Series THIS SATURDAY, His Excellency Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona, S.C., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is launching the President’s Oxygen Concert Series, a six-week series of free concerts with the aim of revitalizing culture within the capital city of Port of Spain, by the playing of live music at the Bandstand in the Botanical Gardens. The elder among us will recall, many years ago, the absolute joy of going to the Savannah, often by tramcar, on Sunday afternoons to listen to the Police Band and Regiment Band play popular music of the time led by Superintendent Rupert Dennison and later, Superintendent Patrick Taylor. Who can forget the controversy when the first local director of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Band, Superintendent Anthony Prospect, introduced calypso into their repertoire at the Bandstand! This concert series will be an opportunity for families, particularly with young children, to be exposed to our nation’s unique musical blends and talents. It will also be an opportunity to strengthen family life with a view to engendering social change from the level of the family. The concerts will be held on Sundays at 4:00p.m. and each will run for approximately one hour and a half. In honour of Father’s Day, the first in the series will not be held on Sunday but on Saturday 15th June and will feature The Trinidad and Tobago Police Band. The concert dates are as follows: Saturday 15 June, 2013 Sunday 23 June, 2013 Sunday 30 June, 2013 Sunday 7 July, 2013 Sunday 14 July, 2013 Sunday 21 July, 2013
