Pretty much the sweetest moment of the day. I can relate to the little guy. I almost cried every time I saw her in NYC. The Duchess was introduced to two-year-old Ryan Dixon who burst into tears as she approached. The normally boisterous toddler took one look at the Duchess, said “no no, Mummy, no no Mummy,” and did his best to run away. She laughed off the rare snub, telling Ryan: “I would be shy as well.” Ryan, who had been practicing for his big moment over the weekend, left posy presenting duties to his mother Tracy Samuels instead, who afterwards said she was surprised that her boisterous son had reacted so shyly. We practiced all weekend, said single mother Miss Samuels. He was going to say these are for you, nice flowers, lovely flowers and he was fine doing it at home. I don’t know what made him so shy, normally he is really outgoing and he’s never been shy like this when there’s been a big occasion. The Duchess was asking how I coped after Ryan was born, said Miss Samuels afterwards. I told her I was very depressed and I was even thinking about suicide, but my mentor got me right back on track. She could see I’ve got my confidence back and self-belief because my smile is back. He is so cute (and now quite famous!). I want to munch him up. It will be a great story for him to share for years & years. And I am so proud of how far him mummy has come in her journey. The whole story just makes my heart burst & my eyes fill with tears. xo lulu
