Pro-Regime Syrian Hackers Threaten Cyberattacks on CENTCOM Homeland Security News Wire (03/06/14) The Syrian Electronic Army (SEA), a group of hackers who support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, threatened on Friday, March 2, to launch a cyberattack on U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) if the U.S. conducts cyberware operations against Syria. Bob Gourley, a former Chief Technology Officer for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DID) said that he believes that the threat should be taken very seriously, as, since 2013, the SEA has hacked the social media or websites of several large media outlets. Cybersecurity and Cyberwar, Allan Friedman, speculated that the threat to CENTCOM could suggest that the SEAs has newly acquired capabilities the go beyond the use of denial of service attacks and website defacement.
