Progressing into the Ps with P2 Vatican Blues. Theres a lot in this song that I like. One of my favorite lines of this song about climbing every step in St. Peters Dome. Im sure some of you have been to St. Peters Basilica in Vatican City...I vividly recall how long it took to climb those steps to the top. Every time I thought there couldnt possibly be another set of stairs, Id turn the corner and there would be another narrow staircase, thinner air, until eventually I thought wondered if Id meet St. Peter himself at the top. I wonder if its Georges comparison of the way he felt about the religion: step climbing to the top, only one way up, in a stifling, narrow and constrictive way that left no room for interpretation or how close you are to the Source. In the first verse, despite the beauty of the ceiling, still, you are looking up at God - God is up there, and we are all down here. And the Lenny Bruce reference, puff of white smoke knocked me out. Whether you are Catholic or not, the song is funny and not particularly subtle. Classic George humor with great slide. Umm....happy Sunday?
