Promises Made - Promises Kept! During the 2013 campaign, I promised to tackle a number of issues or concerns that our residents wanted action taken. I submitted the following proposals to City Hall: √ The “Community Livability Action Plan” to combat aggressive panhandling – Adopted 4/1/14. √ Placing Council Meeting Public Comment time at beginning of meeting – introduced in March, not voted on, now under consideration a second time. √ A City-Wide “Silver Alert” program – Adopted as the “Get Home Safe Program” - 5/21/14. √ Identify private and public owned WiFi “hotspots and place information on City’s website – Adopted 4/10/14. One hotspot at the Casa Blanca Library, the second at City Hall and grounds - in progress. √ City-owned Tree Plan be modified to return ownership of trees in resident maintained parkways to resident – Pending (City Staff is researching successes in other cities and will be submitting report soon). √ “User Friendly” changes to Street Sweeping Plan – Adopted March, 2014. √ Modify parking codes to allow for parking of dually pick-up trucks in residential neighborhoods. √ Installing “overhead projector” for Council Meeting Public Comment use by the public – Pending. Will re-submit if not successful. √ Installation of a traffic signal light at Central & Rumsey/Laramie – Anticipated 12/14 or 1/15. √ Dismantling of the Red Light Camera Program – Cameras were removed on 9/15/14. √ A “concierge” program for City’s Planning Department – Adopted 7/5/14. √ “Cut Red Tape & Roll Out Red Carpet Plan for City’s Planning Department – Submitted - Pending. √ Proposed the City Adopt-A-Pass to find service groups that will take over responsibility of our Citys underpasses (along the 91 freeway corridor), such as lighting, keeping sidewalks clean, pigeon nest deterrent, and paining/artwork along wall sides - Pending (City staff researching this). √ Installing a Dog Park - or Bark Park at Don Jones Park and Andulka Park - Pending. √ That residents make their concerns known at a forum with Councils outside financial auditors present - in order to focus on Sewer, Water and Electric Fund transactions - Meeting conducted on 7/29/14. More meetings have been scheduled. √ That residents have a forum to ask questions about our Sewer/Water/Electric funds - specific to inter-fund loans, transfers and movements of assets related to these funds - On-going starting, September, 2014. √ Along with these proposals, were numerous Public Works repairs, upgrades to our streets, storm drains, parks, street signage, and other quality of life issues. Many still in progress. √ Approval of additional non-emergency ambulance providers other than AMR - Approved 9/23/2014. Four new non-emergency providers soon to be approved. √ Modification of traffic signal lights at SR-91 at Tyler to increase traffic flows and safety. Done! √ Asked City staff to list all public & private K-12 along with all trade and university schools on City website.
