(Prostho lecture 4. 9 mac 2014) Biomechanical principles 1. Support 2. Retention 3. Stability (resistance form) 4. Maintaining dental, gingival & periodontal health. (this point is important in RPD) Rational force(the points in slide) As doctor layla said we have 2 types of force 1. Normal/natural force Eg: speech and eating 2. Abnormal force. Eg: biting on finger nail, bruxism (static), clenching (laterally movement of the mouth) We construct RPD according to natural force however this natural force we have to resist it. Why we have to resist the normal force? 1. To resist excess normal force to the remaining teeth 2. RPD itself is not fix and movable. How to remove/minimize unwanted force 1.RPI, RPA system, using wrought wire 2. Make indirect retention 3. Construct clasp near to the marginal gingiva (for more points can refer to slide) *fulcrum line: the most distant two rests.
