Prototype: Laser beam positioning at all wavelengths made easy Accurate alignment of laser beams and optical components is crucial in fields such as micro machining, experimental research, and medical technology. In these and many other applications, the location of light incidence onto the specimen needs to be known precisely. Knowledge of beam position is required for example, in a biological sample where cells should be excited by laser radiation only in a very specific region. Positioning sensors are often semiconductor based photodiodes and therefore limited to certain wavelengths and power ranges. greenTEG’s positioning module consists of four thermopile detectors. Due to the thermopile detectors, the spectral range from DUV to MIR is measurable. Furthermore, radiation powers ranging from just a few microwatts to several watts can be detected. This wide dynamic range allows for high flexibility regarding the application in different laser systems. First tests demonstrate a spatial resolution below 100 µm.
