Proverbs 23:29: 29Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? 30Those who stay long at the wine; Those who go to seek out mixed wine. 31Don’t look at the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it goes down smoothly: 32In the end, it bites like a snake, And poisons like a viper. 33Your eyes will see strange things, And your mind will imagine confusing things. 34Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea, Or as he who lies on top of the rigging: 35“They hit me, and I was not hurt; They beat me, and I don’t feel it! When will I wake up? I can do it again. I can find another.” Beloved 9Your mouth like the best wine, That goes down smoothly for my beloved, Gliding through the lips of those who are asleep. Song of Solomon 7:9: 1-9 The similitudes here are different from what they were before, and in the original refer to glorious and splendid clothing. Such honour have all his saints; and having put on Christ, they are distinguished by their beautiful and glorious apparel. They adorn the doctrine of God their Saviour in all things. Consistent believers honour Christ, recommend the gospel, and convince and awaken sinners. The church resembles the stately and spreading palm; while her love for Christ, and the obedience resulting therefrom, are precious fruit of the true Vine. The King is held in the galleries. Christ takes delight in the assemblies and ordinances of his people; and admires the fruit of his grace in them. When applied to the church and to each faithful Christian, all this denotes that beauty of holiness, in which they shall be presented to their heavenly Bridegroom.
