Psalm 8:3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, - TopicsExpress

Psalm 8:3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; 4 what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals[a] that you care for them? 5 Yet you have made them a little lower than God,[b] and crowned them with glory and honor. 6 You have given them dominion over the works of your hands. even as insignificant we may feel in relation to this visual experience of our known universe, we have been given a huge responsibility to not have dominion over but to be caretakers of all that God has entrusted to us. (this hebrew word (mashal) is different than dominion (radah) in Gen. 1:26. Radah has images of trampling down (like stomping grapes), but Mashal is more like to rule over as a prince and reminds me of the ruling of a government, certainly not to trample upon type of dominion. My hebrew study is very amateur but I appreciate the discipline of reflecting on the original language and how it can inform our understanding. (i use blueletterbible.org for help.)
