Quanta Magazine has an article about a quasicrystal found in a meteorite that has helped provide some clues into what our solar system was like 4.5 billion years ago. The meteorite had been sitting in a basement of a museum in Florence, Italy until 2008 after being purchased by a collector in 1987. And quasicrystals have an interesting history themselves, being considered impossible until first created in a laboratory 1982. The Florence meteorite proved to be the first example of a naturally formed quasicrystal.
