Ques: What is the secret of happiness? #SriSri: Secret of happiness is not wanting anything and doing Seva (service). The more you do Seva, the more happiness you get. And the third is knowledge. Without knowledge there is no happiness in life. Without self-knowledge everything is empty. Ques: Is it possible to ever-smiling like you? What is your trade secret? I promise I will never compete with you! #SriSri: I want competition! I want everyone to compete on this. I don’t want that promise from you at all. In fact you should tell me you will always compete with me. There is an ancient saying, the teacher always wishes to be challenged by the student. The teacher’s pride is when the student challenges. Challenge not in a bad way but in a positive sense. The teacher loves to be defeated by the student and that is the pride of a teacher – “I got defeated by my student!”.. How to keep smiling? Broaden your vision. Know that life is much bigger than the small events that take place. What robs you off your smile is unpleasant events, events which does not bring you comfort or which appear to give you misery. But when you realize that you are much bigger than pleasure and pain, you’re much bigger than events that occur, in day to day life, either pleasant or unpleasant, then the smile on your face will not vanish. Second, when you know that there is someone to guide you, take care of you, there is a power with you, then also your smile cannot vanish. Third is when you see that you are here to give and contribute, that there are people who need you more than you need anything else. That also gives you the strength to move through those moments when you cannot smile. Ques: I am young girl, seventeen years old and I feel lonely all the time. How can I become stronger and self-dependent? #SriSri: Now the time for you is to gain more talents. Seventeen year olds should not get into the trap of loneliness and other things. You should have no time, other than for developing your career, developing you skills. Ok? And do some bhastrika, exercise and keep on the run. Ques: I feel that I should do only the work which is my passion. Should I follow my heart or be practical? #SriSri: Life is to bring a balance between these two – practical and have a little element of heart in it too. There is no set rule for it, mind you. Ques: I told my boss that I have faith in Bhagavad Gita so when I work for him, I work without expecting fruits of my actions. He has stopped paying me, what do I do? #SriSri: But you have forgotten that Gita has said, fight for your rights! Tell them that chapter is over, I don’t expect, but now I’m going to fight for my rights. So come on, take up your bow and arrow and keep shooting at them, if he doesn’t pay your salary! Ques: I have gained some skills in Seva but it is not helping me practically in my work. #SriSri: It’s ok, it will be of use some time or another. Else you do whatever you are capable of doing! Whatever you have learnt, it never goes to waste. It comes to use somewhere, sometime or another. Ques: How can Vairagya(dispassion) be practiced by married people in their lives? #SriSri: When you fight, then come into dispassion. When things don’t happen according to your liking then bring in dispassion. Without dispassion it is impossible to move ahead in life. There is no happiness without it. The person without dispassion, takes things from the past and projects it onto the future. The dispassionate one lives in the present. Ques: Why don’t we have Annadaan(offering of food) in our Ashram? What is the significance of Annadaan? #SriSri: Yes it should, in fact it already does take place in Ashram. Significance of any act of offering (daan) is that of sharing. And it is a divine quality. Ques: What is the effect of self-effort on our Karma? #SriSri: Karma attached to every facet of life. Everything leads to the increase in our Karmas, except when you come into knowledge, then your karmas are reduced. Knowledge cuts down your karmas, devotion reduces karma. Rest all leads to the increase in karmas. But all three, knowledge, devotion and karma, are important in life. Without these three this world and life cannot exist. Ques: How does eating non vegetarian affect our spiritual progress? #SriSri: I wouldn’t wish to speak much on this issue. You go to Google, and you will find a lot of articles and information, scientific information on why you should not go the non-vegetarian way. Vegetarian is best for your body, mind and spirit. You can learn this from Google, with evidence! Ques: You have said that at some point of time women were so powerful that even nature would listen to them. What changed? #SriSri: You have to ask that to the historians. Historians will tell you what happened, why women lost power when they had all the power once upon a time. But now it’s not late. Women should not ask for power. Women should not say, “I want to be empowered”. No. They should simply take the power and move on. Don’t sit and wait for someone to give you power. Know that you have all the power and move on. Collectively you can move on, not individually. Women should group themselves collectively. Ques: Is the human race evolving? Is the evolution of human race based on parameters out of our control like Yugas? #SriSri: No, no, no. Yuga creates a season, a climate, but the efforts of human beings should continue.
