Question for all full-time students!!! Do you guys agree with the automatic enrolment of all full time students into the MSU Health & Dental plans? These plans add up to $254.08 and is essentially charged upfront, then you are given the chance to opt out for a short 1 month period (Sept 1-30). After that, there no questions they will keep your money. A large majority of the student body come into university with existing plans and are unaware of these automatic charges, ESPECIALLY first year students. (An MSU representative I spoke to on the phone today insinuated that most first years are usually unaware of these charges...) and therefore are getting taken advantage of for their own, or their parents money. I would like to see a referendum take place to vote this automatic enrolment out of picture and instead give students the option to OPT-IN for health & dental rather than the automatic enrolment and payment for premiums which arent needed. In order for this to happen we only need 600 signatures from full time Mac students. Depending on the feedback from this post, I will create an online petition to gather signatures and hopefully see a positive change in the McMaster community! thanks to those who read this whole thing :)
