REALITY CHECK: To begin with lets start with the facts, the call which really wasnt a call because the flag was extracted and the referees said absolutely nothing didnt result in Dallas winning the game. Dallas won the game because they A) scored in the first half after being down 14 points and cutting their lead to 7 B) Got an interception at the beginning of the second half and-though they didnt score-resulted in momentum shifting away from Detroit C) Scored on every subsequent series after that D) scored the go ahead touchdown in the 4th with less than 3 minutes on the clock. E) Sacked and forced two fumbles-one of which ended the game. The phantom call didnt impact either Detroit or Dallas because Detroit had the option of getting a one yard first down and moving the chains at midfield. They chose to punt. Did the officials force them to punt? No. The Lions could very well have marched on to at least a field goal or even tried a field goal from that part of the field. They opted to punt and the punt was lousy thus ceding midfield dominance to Dallas anyway and eventually leading to the winning touchdown.
