REALLY BAD NEWS FOR MIDTOWN WEST. Being forced by cops to move from 55th/Broadway. We will post our new location as soon as we are parked. Police say that this is our last warning. If we ever park on 55th/broadway again they are going to tow us and impound our truck. So, this means the end of a spot we have loved and been at every Wednesday for years. For those who dont understand how cops can push us around like this, its like this: A couple years ago, when food trucks really blew up in NYC, neighborhoods who didnt want them around got lawyers to resurect a turn of the century pushcart law which basically indicated that you cant sell merchandise from a metered location. The lawyers had the definition of the word merchandise as understood by NY State courts to include food. So basically overnight, it became illegal to sell food from any metered parking spot in NYC. Because of this, all food trucks live a fringe life here, of trying to find spots where we dont bother surrounding businesses, because if they complain about our presence, the police can kick us out and ticket us any time, just for being open serving food. This is something we really hope to change, and we have partnered with other food trucks and street vendors at The Street Vendor Project to fight for our right to exist in the NYC food landscape.
