REASON FOR HOPE IN GOD Part 2 GOD’S PRESENCE IS WITH US As he searched his soul and uttered his prayer to God, the Psalmist said, “My soul thirsteth for God” (Psalms 42:2). He realized that God was the living Lord. He understands that God, not he, was the ultimate reality. Our only significance is not within ourselves, but it lies in the fact that God lives with us. Today, more than ever, people need to know that God is alive. They don’t need more religion or even more churches. What people really need is a deep and personal experience with the living God. We really don’t need more statues, cornerstone, pillars, markers, churches, synagogues, or cathedrals. What we really need is a personal and spiritual encounter with the living God Himself! As wonderful an institution as the Church is in our society, I am afraid that many of us get so caught up in our denomination affiliations that we forget all about God. I am also concerned that we often get so entangled in theidleness of the form and ritual of religion that we miss God altogether. He is just as alive and real as you are or as your best friend or family member. Unfortunately, most of us don’t think of God in such personal terms. We tend to view Him as an abstraction, sort of floating around “out there”. But God is not some unclear theological or philosophical abstraction.He is real, alive and personal. He is not just some vague idea to be treated with irreverence and disrespect. But many people treat Him that way because they do notrealizewho He is. The greatest hope for mankind is the knowledge of Godas a real, personal, and Living Savior. His very presence in our lives reminds us that we are not alone as we face the future. God is on our side.
