Hello friends, It is very strange that in our Lords day Judaism should have sunk into a formal religion of outward observance, when its own wisdom was so explicit about the fact that true religion has to do with the heart. The OT, far from encouraging a relationship with God based on law-keeping, commends those whose hearts are wholly devoted to the Lord. I think that is what Solomon meant by Guarding the heart. Giving God the first place in your life. Not allowing anything else to be No.1 in your thinking and affections. For me, love of art and painting can be a snare I have to watch myself carefully because I never want this second love to rival my love for the One who loved me even unto death. Richard.
