RIGHT EYE, NO SIGHT The ophthalmologist could not detect any - TopicsExpress

RIGHT EYE, NO SIGHT The ophthalmologist could not detect any response to light nor activity of any kind in Jacks right eye. Injury to the eye caused atrophy, which means an indirect injury, (behind the eye) most likely a broken bone fragment, made its way to the optic nerve. This created the nerve to be blocked which results in no transmit to the brain. Jack has a follow up appointment in six weeks to see if there is any change. Surgery isnt recommended because it is rarely successful. VISION THERAPY Jack can do some exercises to strengthen a muscle near the eye which might help both eyes move in the same direction but there is no guarantee that this can happen, just an option to try and get the right eye to at least move with the left eye, not that it will see. GLASSES The ophthalmologist prescribed glasses (plain lenses; the left eye sees 20/20) for protection and a transition lens that will darken when outside to protect. Its not estimated this will be permanent, just protection to ensure his eyes adjust to his new situation with his vision. Jack, as would be expected, was pretty upset to find out about his right eye blindness; he tries to hide it. This is something Jack is concerned about for his future and how his right eye will look to others. John and Kelly have a GREAT attitude about it, because they know they have Jack and that is only physical. His mobility is amazing and he is doing great and they are beyond grateful for this! RUGBY Jack had another opportunity to hang with dad (John) for more rugby this Saturday at a tournament in Portland. Jack was in his element and dad was over the moon to have his son with him. Its been a good Saturday!
