RIP, Johnny Winter. So sad to see you go, brother. Johnny died last night in Switzerland, but he left us an incredible legacy of the truest and bluest of the blues, replete with his amazing guitar work. He was a master of all aspects of blues guitar: Piedmont, and Delta finger style and slide, acoustic, Dobro; electric New York, and Chicago style picking and of course all things blue from Texas. He was also a great vocalist. It should also be mentioned that at a time when Muddy Waters career as at its all time low, after the end of Chess Records, Johnny produced four great authentic Chess-sounding records for Muddy and helped rebuild his career. Three of those albums received Grammy awards: Blue Sky Records albums Hard Again 1977, Im Ready 1978, and Muddy Mississippi Waters Live 1979 (Johnny toured and played guitar with Muddy and the band on this one--a great live blues album).
