ROCK SOLID SOUVENIRS On July 8, 1967, the International Puppet Festival, in which six countries took part, premiered a the Youth Pavilion. Two sailboats from the Navy League of Canada, the St. Lawrence II of Kingston and the Pathfinder of Toronto, with on board 43 teenagers, arrived at the marina. There are very few robberies at Expo but, curiously, hostesses reported the constant disappearance of smooth round beach stones surrounding certain pavilions. A few hundred pounds of stones vanished out of a total of 8 million tons. It is believed that visitors used these mementos as paperweights. To celebrate the Canadian Centennial, an Australian long distance runner announced that he would run the 350 miles distance between Toronto and Expo. According to the head of Expos restaurant division of concessions, of the 80 million meals served, approximately 70 cases of food poisoning were reported, a low record according to him. Expo employed 20 inspectors to ensure the freshness of food and the cleanliness of the 400 points of sale on the site (photo)!
