Range riders are helping prevent conflicts between wolves and livestock in Washington state, ultimately keeping wolves safe. A pilot program in Washington state, funded by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife with a match from ranchers donated primarily from Conservation Northwest, that has hired range riders to keep an eye on livestock is so far proving successful. When a rancher signs up for this program, they are eligible for up to $10,000 in state funds to hire a range rider. After three summers, ranchers who participated have not lost any livestock to wolves. “I think range riding is about the best option to deter problems,” cattle rancher Karla Christianson said. Hopefully these success stories will encourage other ranchers to try out non-lethal preventative methods of preventing conflict. yakimaherald/news/lateststatenews/2759053-8/range-riding-wolf-patrol-shows-signs-of-success-in
