Rant about Afghan Presidential Elections: Dr. Ashraf Ghani - TopicsExpress

Rant about Afghan Presidential Elections: Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai is the man who is internationally perceived as the go-to man for fixing failed states. The county that needs him the most, his own country, does not recognize his ability and skills. To me, this is a sad commentary around the previous leaders of Afghanistan. I believe the bar set by previous leaders is so low; the average Afghan can’t fathom a leader actually having the unique skill sets to put the country on the right path. The typical BS rhetoric you hear from so called leaders about unity and blah blah blah is redundant and patronizing to the people of this country. None of them have a clue regarding how to turn Afghanistan into the next Singapore. So much of a society’s issues and challenges can be solved via sound economic strategy. A country is like a business, aside from the interpersonal issues, you better have a firm grasp of economic policy in this global economy. Does the eye doc have any experience managing land and assets on a macro scale, what kind of experience does he have measuring ROI, conducting feasibility studies, leveraging monetary policy, etc. It just bugs the shit out of me that some washed up eye doctor who spent his life pilfering money is mentioned in the same breath as Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai. It’s like, would you ask an eye doctor to build a bridge? Hell no! you bring in a civil engineer. So what makes us think that this man can fix the ills of a country like Afghanistan? Whether it this election or the next one, whether it’s Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai or someone else in the future, the leader of a county needs to have some baseline skill sets built on economics and management. This standard needs to be embedded in people’s minds so you don’t have charlatans hijacking a county. I mean, I would never have an economist perform cataract surgery on a loved one. So, how can we have an eye doctor take charge of a country? That is the fundamental question every Afghan citizen must ask, if Afghanistan is to ever get on the right track. Bottom line, when you evaluate the rise or demise of any country in history, the common denominator is economics.
