Prescribed Burn at Camp Swift Today - We received notification that the Texas A&M Forest Service and Camp Swift plan to have a prescribed burn of grassland at the northern end of Camp Swift today (9/10/14) from approx. 1p-4p. Expect to see smoke in the area during this time. Prescribed burns are an effective and efficient method to manage rangeland over large areas. Prescribed burns reduce the hazardous fuel loads present from overgrowth and accumulation of vegetation. In order to conduct this activity, certain parameters must be met (weather, fuel types, safety precautions, etc.). If these parameters are not achieved, then the prescription is not indicated and the activity will not occur. This is similar to receiving a prescription from a healthcare provider. If certain signs and symptoms are not present (stuffy nose, itchy throat, ear pain, etc.), then a particular prescription is not indicated and would not be administered by the healthcare provider.
