Read Ricks Story I have not always been overweight. Most of my life I have been pretty healthy. I played sports in my teens, served four years in the Marine Corps, and in 2010 ran two marathons. My nutritional habits were not great, but I always had the ability to burn more than I put in. Now after a series of events, I find myself with 60 lbs of weight gain in 3 years. It started off fairly slow enough. I had put on 5-8 lbs of weight while my wife was pregnant. Our diet went from not great to just horrible with her cravings of pizza, ice cream and pancakes. I not only went along with the change but also found myself dining out for lunches. At this time I ended up with an injury playing tennis where I ruptured my calf muscle. Eight weeks later, trying to push myself back, I found I ruptured it again. I waited twelve weeks for it to hear and gained another five pounds during this time. I returned to working out and after a week was involved in a car accident that resulted in a back injury. I have not returned to a regular routine since. In the last three years I have managed to add 60 pounds and my waist size went from a 38 to a 44. I am wearing XXL shirts and am embarrassed to have my picture taken. I find myself having aches and pains and am at risk of doing serious damage to my body. I also am worried about the role model I will be to my 2.5 year old son and want to make life changes to ensure I am healthy enough to keep him active and to see him have a family of his own someday. I need help though. I have tried on my own and without knowledge and training, I have found that I have fallen short on getting any sort of regularity to my nutrition or my routines. I feel with the right motivation and influence, I can get my life back and hopefully inspire my wife and others with my weight loss journey.
