Dads are largely absent from the mainstream news media discussion about parenting, and fatherhood is rarely as controversial or politically volatile as motherhood. In movies and TV, dads are either well-meaning dopes like Phil Dunphy in Modern Family or the Seth Rogen character in Knocked Up, or completely absent. Diaper ads are directed to hardworking moms. Parenting sections of book stores have about three (if that) dusty volumes of books directed to men. But in my day-to-day observations about raising kids, dads are totally in the mix, at least 50-50, and sometimes dominant. Which of the following if true strengthens the argument above? a. Todays dads fret as much as moms do about their kids diets, school curriculums, media consumption, future, past and everything in between. b. Dads across the country have formed fathering meet-up groups, including the highly successful New York City Dads Group and this years 17th Annual At-Home Dads Convention. c.
