Ready to learn about real Balinese culture? Flower, Ari, and Iluh are ready to teach their first class on making offerings. The date is set for Saturday, 6 September, 2014 at 2pm, on the beach in Sanur. The class will run for approximately 3 hours, during which, you will learn to make the standard canang (offering) and pejati (a more complete offering, as shown in the photo)...yes, you will make everything shown in the photo along with the rituals involved for offering the gifts to the gods and spirits. After class, you may take your offerings home to place them wherever you wish. Since Flower found a better location than originally planned, the total cost, including all materials, supplies and instruction is Rp. 250,000. (payable at the beginning of class) Please contact me here, to reserve - spaces are limited. The ladies also have some plans in the works for future classes - decorating for Galungan, to be held at Flowers home in Sanur and including home decorations and offerings for the family temple. A short class for children to make basic canang. Theyre also discussing a future course to help you properly participate in local ceremonies, such as Melasty. Stay tuned for information on these and other local culture classes, taught by Balinese ladies, who insist on doing things the traditional way. (no staples in these offerings...)
