Really. The next time you have an hour on your hands and want to watch/hear something compelling, engaging and in-depth. Watch this. Radley Balkos book on this subject cannot get into my hands fast enough. Other things I like about this video: (1) its from VICE news and (2) Reihan Salam conducts the interview! (yes there ARE conservative minds out there I like) This interview is sort of a wide angle lens of some of the madness weve seen over the past few months in this country. Dont get me wrong. I think racial profiling and difficulties with the way poor communities of color are policed are huge issues. But I also believe that the overall culture dissected below probably had a hand in the death of Michael Brown, played a significant role in the death of Eric Garner and is supremely responsible for the death of Akai Gurley. Not to mention the fact the sober, reflective tone of these two guys talking about this subject in technical detail for the better part of an hour completely undercuts the race-baiting idiocy of Rudy Giuliani and his conflating responsible questions about police tactics and training with accessory to psychotic murder.
