Recently an old friend texted me and said he was up at the nursing home with his guitar, and asked if I was home. It was a rare occasion that lovely Saturday afternoon, that I was indeed at home. He said cmon up and sing one with me for Leota, so I hopped on the bike and went. We sang her a few songs, including this timeless classic tale of a wanderer, that George Lopez and Mike Holten Sr, and Steve and the band and I had pretty much had down to a T in the days when I was lucky enough to sing it with them. This is a great old song, and we could always bring the house down with it. We sang others that day, but this one was special. As we concluded our little impromptu nursing home suare, I sang Leota the classic Frank Sinatra song Summer Wind. I couldnt look at her towards the end, cuz her crying was going to break me up....And guess who sighs his lullabyes, through nights that never end?..... My fickle friend.... The summer wind, warm summer wind!! Unless her tears were from my terrible singing.... It is pretty safe to say, SHE LIKED IT. Thanks Mike and Denise, for a genuinely soul cleansing experience, in a room in a nursing home in Portland, Indiana.... You just never know when or how you can touch someones life in a positive way. It sure did me some good at least!
