Red, White and Blue day at Ford Cove by kayak. The White is the hazy sky. Are ever going to have blue skies this summer? Paddling through the water lilies I saw Common Blue Damselflies but also saw a red version of damselfly which was slightly smaller. Cruising over the wispy fern-like water plants just under the surface I could see a very faint blueness on the tips of some stalks and a very faint redness on the tips of others. A very subtle difference in the all green under water world. Paddling along the Bird Island side of the Cove I saw the smallest sandpiper I have ever seen hopping from rock to rock at the waters edge. Must be a Least Sandpiper which is known for early return migration in Michigan. Checked BirdTrax to look for any reports, nothing yet.
