Reflections from Chief Weiss; “I have no ambition in this world but one, and that is to be a fireman. The position may, in the eyes of some, appear to be a lowly one; but we who know the work which the fireman has to do believe that his is a noble calling. Our proudest moment is to save lives. Under the impulse of such thoughts, the nobility of the occupation thrills us and stimulates us to deeds of daring, even of supreme sacrifice.” These words by Edward J Croker, Chief of the Department FDNY from 1899-1911 were never as poignant as on September 11, 2001. As firefighter’s we must never forget and continue to honor the heroic firefighter’s that through their duty saved thousands of lives of every race and nationality that day in NYC. Additionally the firefighter’s at the Pentagon and of course the brave passengers of the plane that crashed in PA. A Basic TimeLine of the Events of that Day 0846 AM- American Airlines Flight 11 crashed in the North Tower of the World Trade Center. 0903 AM- United Airline Flight 175 crashes into the South Tower of the World Trade Center. 0937 AM- American Airlines Flight 77 crashes in the Pentagon. 0958 AM- South Tower of the World Trade Center collapses. 1003 AM- Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, PA (it was thought this plane was headed towards Washington, DC). 1005 AM- North Tower of the World Trade Center collapses. 1720 PM- World Trade Center Building 7 collapses.. At the end of that horrific day, President George W. Bush wrote in his journal “The Pearl Harbor of the 21st Century took place today”. We honor those firefighters and all who died on September 11, 2001 by Never Forgetting their sacrifice and continuing to do our job every day.
