Rescue never takes a break. It doesnt matter what is going on in your own life, the calls, emails and pleas for help never stop. This past month has been rough. On Sept. 19, 2014, I lost my Isabelle. A 12 1/2 yr old Cane Corso who no longer had use of her back legs. She was my it dog. They are all special but some will always be that one. She was an ambassador for the breed, bringing smiles to so many in her younger years visiting schools and nursing homes. She taught people to not fear a dog like her. On Oct. 14, 2014, I came home to find my cat Mr. Chompers dead unexpectedly. He was a former feral who chose this house to live. He remained an outside cat never leaving his yard (only to venture next door for some actual meat treats from the neighbors). He kept a watch on things and welcomed everyone that came here. He was such a photogenic guy who had been best friends with Weeble, the handicapped horse (now 24 yrs old) and his past friends Martin Luther the crippled goat who lived to be 18, Large Marge the pot bellied pig (d. age 13) and Chuck the Muscovy duck who had been found on the side of the road with his feet frostbitten. He lost several of his toes but got along just fine. The photo is from the day Chuck passed away with Chompers by his side. This morning I woke up to find my three legged 16+ yr old MommaCat dying. She was diagnosed with possible cancer not that long ago. I knew the time with her was short but did not expect it to be this morning. I held her as she peacefully took her last breaths. I am glad I was here to be with her. The recent black kitty rescued reminds me so much of her. All of the animals realize they have lost yet another friend today. In a full house, it can sure seem empty sometimes.
