Researchers at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles are still recruiting boys 7 to 14 years of age with Duchene muscular dystrophy (DMD) to participate in a multi-center clinical study to determine whether the drug tadalafil can slow the decline in walking ability. To be eligible, boys must be able to walk and have been taking a corticosteroid drug. Although tadalafil is currently on the market for interventions other than muscular dystrophy, researchers believe it may help overcome some blood-flow abnormalities in Becker and Duchenne muscular dystrophies. Participants with DMD who meet study criteria are being recruited through December 2014. You can read more about the study and tadalafil at quest.mda.org/news/trial-tadalafil-dmd-open-participants. For more information about participating in this study, please contact the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute at (310) 248-8080.
